Ayala Museum
Our first stop is the Ayala Museum, located in Greenbelt, Makati. It is a museum that is privately run by the Ayala Foundation and houses various exhibits.
The museum houses exhibits covering various areas, from funerary masks and sculptures to pre-colonial Filipino garments. Through these exhibits, we can observe the backgrounds and practices of pre-colonial Filipinos. Here we can see the deities they worship and their appearances, as well as their beliefs and practices relating to the afterlife. The museum also has exhibits that showcase the various clothing, designs, and craftsmanship of the pre-colonial Filipinos.
Ayala Museum also houses a special exhibit, found exclusively there. This is the Diorama Experience. The Diorama Experience showcases the history of the Philippines from the prehistoric period until the modern era through miniature dioramas. This exhibit is the main attraction of the museum. Occasionally Ayala Museum also holds special exhibits. On my visit, I witnessed their exhibit dedicated to Juan Luna, one of the Philippines' most renowned artists. It displayed his life, along with his works with the theme based on one of his paintings, “Hymen, oh Hyménée.”
Overall, the Ayala Museum is a great stop to learn about Philippine history. It is also conveniently located as it is surrounded by malls and shopping centers. After going on a museum visit, you can proceed to go window-shopping and have food trips, making a very memorable experience.
